Pavlos Fysakis

Ο Παύλος Φυσάκης γεννήθηκε στην Αθήνα το 1969 και ήρθε σε επαφή με τη φωτογραφία για πρώτη φορά σε ηλικία 12 ετών μετά το σεισμό του 1981, όπου βγήκε να απαθανατίσει τους δρόμους της Αθήνας. Συνεργάζεται με εφημερίδες και περιοδικά, ενώ διδάσκει φωτογραφία στη Μονάδα Απεξάρτησης 18 άνω. Μέσα από τις φωτογραφίες του κάνει γνωστές στο ευρύ κοινό ιστορίες ανθρώπων που βρίσκονται σε οριακές ή μεταβατικές καταστάσεις. Στην πρώτη του προσωπική δουλειά «Κούκλες» («Dolls»), που παρουσιάστηκε το 1998 στη Μπιενάλε της Νίκαιας στη Γαλλία, απαθανατίζει διεμφυλικά άτομα που εργάζονται στο «Koukles Club» στην Αθήνα. Επιλεγμένες φωτογραφίες από αυτή τη σειρά εκτίθενται στην έκθεση «Στο ίδιο ποτάμι δύο φορές» («The same river twice») στο Μουσείο Μπενάκη, Πειραιώς 138. Η έκθεση διοργανώνεται από το ίδρυμα ΔΕΣΤΕ σε συνεργασία με το New Museum της Νέας Υόρκης, σε επιμέλεια των Margot Norton και Natalie Bell.

Το μουσείο παραμένει κλειστό τον Αύγουστο.

Pavlos Fysakis was born in Athens in 1969 and was first introduced to photography after the earthquake in Athens (1981), when he captured the aftermath in the age of 12. He collaborates with magazines and newspapers and he teaches photography in the Rehabilitation Center 18+. Through his photographs he familiarizes the wide crowd with the stories of people that are in border line or transitioning periods. In his first personal project «Dolls» («Koukles»), that was first presented in 1998 during the Niece Biennale in France, he captures transgender people who work in «Koukles Club» in Athens. Photographs from that series are presented in the group exhibition «The Same River Twice» in Benaki Museum, Peiraios Street 138. The exhibition is organized by DESTE Foundation in collaboration with New Museum in New York, curated by Margot Norton and Natalie Bell.

The museum is closed in August.
